Collaborative Worldbuilding Project Guide
Overview
This project involves modularizing the worldbuilding process among collaborators. Each player has the final say in their assigned "portion" of the world. Players can make suggestions to others and vote on decisions presented for voting.
World Layout & Contributions
Initial Players
Each initial player is responsible for creating:
- One [LOCATION]
- Several notable [FACTIONS]
- A dozen [POINTS OF INTEREST]
- One notable [EVENT]
- Several notable [CHARACTERS]
New Collaborators
Upon accepting a second batch of collaborators, new initial players can create:
- One [FACTION]
- One notable [EVENT]
- One notable [CHARACTER]
- One [POINT OF INTEREST]
Lore Creation & Direction
- Each lore piece (LOCATION/FACTION/EVENT/etc.) can have multiple authors directing its development.
- Authors can make changes to their entries, finalized by a vote among the authors.
- Non-affiliated authors and collaborators can suggest new directions by submitting lore entries or developments for a vote.
- Participants can suggest updates/changes and vote for one of the options.
Voting System
- Use ranked-choice voting to determine the winning suggestion.
- Preference for odd-numbered council of "lore judges."
- Implement a possible tier/ranking system for collaborators.
Collaborator Ranks
- NEW: Can VOTE, OFFER SUGGESTIONS
- JUNIOR: Can VOTE, OFFER SUGGESTIONS, CREATE X WEEKLY LORE UPDATES & POSTS
- SENIOR: Can VOTE, OFFER SUGGESTIONS, CREATE X WEEKLY LORE UPDATES & POSTS, PROGRESS TIMELINE
After the two initial recruiting drives for collaborators, all new collaborators afterwards can only proceed to higher ranks by having one month of activity in the group as well as by being sponsored by two or more jr/sr collaborators in the group.
Lore Posts
Collaborators can make suggestions for their main lore entries or others'. Decisions are made via ranked-choice voting. Collaborators can write new lore posts or update previous ones where they are the senior author. Senior collaborators can progress or begin a timeline or story arc by vote after a specified period (e.g., 3 days, 6 weeks, 3 months).
Types of Lore Posts
- LOCATION: A specific city or district (e.g., Sunset City, Nightbay City).
- FACTION: A group or organization with notable goals and motives.
- POINT OF INTEREST: A small area within a district (e.g., a couch on the street, a dive bar).
- EVENT: Interactions between two entities (e.g., natural disasters, gang wars, diplomatic meetings). Frequently references other lore posts.
- CHARACTER: Any person or being involved in the story.
- MISCELLANEOUS: Posts that don't fit other categories, organized under the MISCELLANEOUS tag.
World Origin
- Collaborators make suggestions for fundamental truths about the world, decided collectively.
- Important truths include the project's visual aesthetic, tone, and underlying philosophy & narrative focus.
- Up to 12 truths can be established before making lore posts.
- Modifying truths or bringing additional truths into existence can only happen during transitory phases of the setting's timeline, per senior collaborator's discretion, by vote.
